Many of us are fortunate to be born into the family we are born in, the roll of the die went our way. But for a number of other individuals they face challenges as youth in securing employment. Through the Ministry of Social Development this is being addressed through the Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) program. Leon a local Alexandra road team constable shared the joy, privilege and challenges of undertaking a six week course as the police mentor at a recent LSV course held at army base Burnham on the outskirts of Christchurch city. Working under the bounds of military law and with the assistance of social workers and career advises young people are aided in their career prospects by undertaking the LSV course. It was heartening to hear of the changes that the course provides to those that commit to the learning and experience.
