CLUB NEWS
Editorial - Andrew Howley
World Polio Day was on the 24 October 2019 and with it came the announcement that The World Health Organization’s declared the eradication of WPVtype3. That means we are even closer than ever to eradicating Polio from the world!

With just WPVtype1 left to eradicate, we as Alexandra Rotary can be proud for our part in contributing to this outcome.

End Polio Movie Night

A big thank you to everyone for their support of the End Polio fundraiser movie ‘Ride Like a Girl’.  We raised about $1000 net for the cause.

Many thanks

MEETING 5TH OF NOVEMBER – Centennial Court

Melbourne Cup Night

As indicated at the last meeting it is intended to have a rerun of the Melbourne Cup Race with the opportunity for you to have a bet if you are so inclined, proceeds to club funds. This is subject to us being able to handle the technology of getting the race onto a computer to show it. On the assumption that we can do that, this is what will happen.

  • We will record the race so we can replay it at a convenient time.
  • We will sell tickets (24 only = the number of horses allowed) which gives the privilege of being able to draw a horse out of the “barrel”
  • I am hoping that I can sell these before the night
  • The allocation of the horses will be completed by way of a “scientific” method which will ensure that you will  be able to draw a horse as per normal sweepstake rules with a slight amendment that you will also “draw” the order in which you are able to select a horse.
  • The race will be run and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will receive (if all tickets sold) $40, $20 and $10 respectively. The club will pick up $50. If all tickets are not sold the prizes will be scaled accordingly
  • There will be no refunds if your horse is scratched. (such is the joy of being a punter)
  • Tickets will cost $5 and will be limited to 1 per person initially so the maximum number of people can participate. This will change if there are still tickets available at the end.
  • This will replace the raffle for the night but if you do not purchase a ticket then you are welcome to make the usual $1 donation

For those keen to participate by purchasing a ticket please let Hugh know 0274341284 or hughmcintyre20@gmail.com as soon as practical.
