The year has started with an excellent speaker for our first meeting. Karl McDonald gave us an enlightening account of life as the physiotherapist for the Japanese rugby team at the 2019 World Cup. Karl was informative and very entertaining. The member turnout for a very warm night was encouraging.
What successful fundraising events we have had over the past 2 months. Treasurer Graham provided the clear profit figures from the Charity Dinner and Book Sale and they showed how worthwhile they have proven. Charity Dinner profit $17,394 and Book Sale profit $27,353 give us a combined profit of $44,747. Directors began a discussion last night as to how these funds would be used. I’ll keep members informed over the next few months on progress.
Thank you to all who have turned up to do the rostered duties. Your help in making the running of the Club nights is much appreciated.
Gordon Wilson brought to the club a Rotary Foundation Club Major Donor certificate (presented at the combined club pre-Christmas BBQ by DG Dylan Murray) to recognise that, over the years, the Alexandra Club has raised in excess of $US 100,000 for the Rotary Foundation. This recognises another great effort and shows how effective the Alexandra Club has been, and is, in supporting projects on a global and local scale.
Another reminder to get apologies and any guests to Greg Hunter by midday Monday on the week of our formal meetings. We need accurate numbers for catering purposes and need to ensure the Club does not incur unnecessary costs.
I mentioned the Rotary Conference which is being held in Waimate from March 19 – 21. At present Paul and I are going but it would be great to have a bigger contingent from Alexandra. If interested visit the District website and you will find all the Conference information.
Next Tuesday (2nd of February) we are planning a working bee at Community House and the park we are developing at the end of the River Track. Meet at Community House at about 5.30 and we can divide the workforce between the 2 areas. We would need trailers to cart cuttings away, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, spades for the garden area and any other implement you feel might be useful. I envisage we would be finished by 7pm and then members can decide whether to go out for a meal or go home.
Neville Grubb has been asked by Sandra from St John if some of our members could help with erecting marquees and registration tent at Galloway for the motorcycle rally event on Thursday 4th of February beginning at 6pm. They also require help to pack these up on Sunday 7th of February beginning at 9am. This is a fundraiser for the St John Youth Division. Any help our Club can give would be much appreciated. If you are available please email or text Nev Grubb.
