We have some meetings in April which are a bit different.
Justine will chair the club meeting on April 2nd. We will be celebrating 30 years since Rotary International accepted women as club members. Justine has decreed that the men of the club are to dress as women, as little or as much as you like! Let’s all be brave and have a go at it! There will be a fundraiser on the night with proceeds helping to fund a club membership scholarship for a Dunstan High School student. So worth getting slightly embarrassed for a good cause.
On April 9th our guests are Dunstan High students Rory Smith, Shaun and Emily Bennett. They will be reporting on their experiences at a Youth Forum (Hands on Science).
What will be happening the following Tuesday April 16th is not quite finalised at the time of writing. We won’t be at Centennial Court which is unavailable that night. We do know our guest speaker is Chris Pickering (Oranga Tamariki).
We will join with Cromwell Club on Monday 22nd April (see below)
We will be taking an /Easter break on 23rd April and on 30th April we will be at Roxburgh.
In other news …
We have the Tasmanian Professional Development Exchange group as our responsibility for a few days from 20th April. Jim Carroll has done a great job organising things for the Australians to do, and thanks to Jim, Jillian and Gordon for hosting our guests. It would be good to have a few more club members signing up to attend the combined club’s potluck barbeque at Lowburn on Monday 22nd April. You can do it on line.
Our guest speaker on March 19th was Terry Davies who gave us a comprehensive insight on the management of the Forsyth Barr stadium and other Dunedin venues. It was all very interesting and Terry knows how to get his message across.
Last Tuesday Dunstan High student Jackson Banks became our representative for the Rotary 4 Way Test Area Speech final. This competition has been arranged by Rotary since 1943. Unfortunately the other competitor was unable to attend because of illness. Thanks Baz for sorting everything out for this event.
At our last directors/trustees meeting grants were approved in the sum of $500 each to a local Kapahaka Festival and to Camp Purple (helping children with inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohns and colitis). A donation of $2,000 has also been made to the Christchurch Mosque appeal organised by Rotary Clubs in the city.
That’s all from me. See you in your “glad rags” next week.!!
Women in Rotary
Club Meeting Tuesday 2 April 2019
To celebrate 30 years of women in Rotary the Club meeting on 2 April 2019 is all about the ladies. We will have some guests in attendance and all you need to do is dress up as a lady!
Do not be afraid gentlemen. You can come dressed up, as little or as much as you like. Dive into your partners wardrobe and be daring or wear a wig, a scarf or a hat and some high heels.
And ladies you don't get away with coming as your daily self. Ladies are to dress up in their finest not just their usual.
This is a fun night and a fundraiser. Gold coins payable by anyone dressed up but a fine of $10 will be payable by anyone not dressed up !
There will be a prize for the best dressed.
The money will be set aside to offer a membership scholarship to a student from Dunstan High School.
