Did you know the Alexandra Blossom Festival is New Zealand’s longest running festival? It marks the start of spring, the season of new life and rejuvenation and a perfect time for our Club to start making changes to our meeting practices. You may have noticed grace has fallen off our meeting tasks. In part, this is because I forget, but in part, because it is time to move forward to be a more modern group.
Over the next year or so Kevin, Jim and I hope to lead other changes that attract and retain members . My vision is for a club where members can be any age and from any walk of life, as long as a person wants to be a part of a group focusing on helping, sharing their skills and knowledge and having fun. No more nominating and defining people by their occupation or perceived standing. We want good, kind and involved people like all of you.

ALEXANDRA COMMUNITY HOUSE
UPDATE
The lawns at ACH require a going over, and there is a small piece of ornamental hedge on the front lawn that needs a tidy up. It would be good if the grounds are looking sharp for Blossom Festival weekend.
There is also an internal garden area that hasn't been given any attention yet. I will find out what we need to do in there.
Everything else is now in pretty good shape, and we need to keep it that way.
We also need to put together a small group of people to manage this contract - not to do the work necessarily, but to set up dates for working bees according to the timeline, to put together a roster, and to ensure a good spread of attendees.
John Whitaker has volunteered for this, I am available, so I think 2 - 3 others would be good.
Thanks, Jim

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner Round 3
Again, for your edification
We have survived two rounds of this venture without any major calamities and no cases of Food Poisoning reported. Planning is now commencing for round 3 which will be held on either the Saturday 5th or Saturday 12th of October. I will be circulating those on my List mid-October but in the meantime I suggest you mark the calendar with those dates.
Those who have not given me their names are welcome to join the group. Let me know at our meeting or email me at hughmcintyre20@gmail.com and I will add you in. We have 18 members on our list at present. A few who haven’t been able to participate yet for various reasons, hopefully this time.

Loud Shirt Day
Please note again
The club Directors have decided that the club will again take part in Loud Shirt Day (LSD) as we did last year.
Loud Shirt Day is an annual fundraiser dedicated to enabling children who are deaf, and have cochlear implants and hearing aids, to listen and speak through funding of free audiology and therapy services.
This year Loud Shirt Day will be held on Friday the 27th of September, although the date our club will have its LSD is: Tuesday 1st October. Everyone is invited to wear a LOUD shirt that evening and there will be a donation collection box at reception.
We are having an advanced screening of 'Ride Like a Girl' with screenings at 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday 18th October at Central Cinema in Alexandra. Tickets are $25 which includes a complimentary glass of wine. If there is not enough room in the bulletin for the flyer, members would be able to link straight in to the sight and book accordingly if you put the www reference below.
We are using the online booking system www.trybooking.co.nz/CTA for this night. We will bring a laptop to our meetings over the next few weeks to help those who are not great with online bookings and help them book if they wish. All they would need is a credit card!
Briefly...
'Ride Like a Girl' is based on the inspirational true story of New Zealander, Micelle Payne becoming the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup and her struggles on her way to acceptance in the male-dominated world of Australian racing. The main actors are Teresa Palmer and Sam Neill.
