Potato extravaganza
Convenor Nev Grubb

As previously mentioned it has  been agreed that the club would run a spud growing competition this year.

This is to support the local foodbank to help provide food at Christmas time for those people less fortunate than ourselves.

The plan is for members to pay $5 each and in return they will get a potato and a bag to grow their potato in. It is up to you to grow and nurture the said potato until we have the big dig close to Christmas.

It has been suggested we have a similar evening to last year down by the river where the winner with the combined heaviest shawl will be announced and be presented with a fantastic trophy.

There will be other prizes for the least number of potatoes, the ugliest potato, smallest potato and of course the largest potato.

The potatoes will be given to the foodbank to include with the Christmas food parcels.
(if there are not enough potatoes we will use all/some of the money given to purchase potatoes for the foodbank, but I am sure that won’t be necessary as we all have green fingers.) Money left over will be given to the foodbank.

I will try and get Swift potatoes as they grow quick and should easily be ready by Christmas time. Once procured I will be in touch on where to pick up the spud and bag.
