ALEXANDRA ROTARY BULLETIN 30th April 2021
President Kevin's comments

Easter has been and gone, as has ANZAC Day, and the weather seems to have started to change – even the coffee group turn up wearing longs and jackets!!!

Our speakers this month have again been very interesting and well chosen by Richard McKenzie (thank you Richard).
Bob Dawson’s life history talk took us through many aspects of his very full life. It’s always fascinating to hear what our members have done.
Nigel Saunders kept us all interested with his tales of life on a submarine. I’m sure we all had a feeling of claustrophobia as he explained in detail how he lived and what he did.

A big thank you to Michael Rooney and his team for organising another successful Senior Citizens Mystery Trip. While there were a couple of hiccoughs those who took part enjoyed the afternoon and the organisation put in to ensure its success.

The Rotary Exchange group from District 9930 (centre North Island) were well looked after during their 3 nights here. Thank you to all who hosted and helped with activities – your assistance is much appreciated. Special thanks to John Whitaker and Hugh McIntyre for their detailed organisation. I know all our visitors thoroughly enjoyed their stay.  This exchange was a first as usually exchanges are to other countries. The success of this exchange would seem to make it logical to have exchanges within the country – our visitors, who have all travelled widely, said they saw Central Otago properly as opposed to just driving through.

Directors have approved funding for a “Smoking Goat ATV 1.2m Little Kid” tow and mow device for the Community Garden ($3130). We have an excellent relationship with Brian Seymour and the Community garden – as well as through wood splitting – so we see this as a positive way we can enhance the good work they do.

We also approved funding for Alexandra District Museum to purchase specialised storage boxes ($3245) for textiles and other delicate bits that require safe storage. We are going to contact the CODC to see if they will contribute as well.

There are a couple of quite major projects we are investigating at present so will keep you all in the loop as we progress.

We are always on the lookout for prospective members. Directors are acutely aware of the age of our club members and keen to see a few more of the younger set as members. If you know of someone you believe suitable, please bring them along.
