Another two weeks have flown by in the Rotary calendar and we have now received confirmation that we have the contract for the Community House Grounds Maintenance. This is a great project that hopefully all members can be involved in at some stage, with guaranteed funding of $3,000 per annum, over the next two years.
Claire and team have also completed a successful Cystic Fibrosis Appeal.
John Whitaker has gathered together a team to move the Charity Dinner forward and keep this event alive, as a major attraction and fundraising event on our Rotary calendar.
Jillian and Karin are progressing the plans for the Polio Plus movie night and the timing is going to fit well with World Polio Day on 24 October 2019.
I have also been contacted by Queenstown Rotary who are running RYLA this year and, with the District Committee, are looking to shake up the programme and make it bigger and better over the next few years. The RYLA event will be held in February 2020 in Queenstown and it would be great to send 1 or 2 young people from our region.
We have many other projects underway and most members are actively involved in some part of our club but if you don’t know what is happening or would like to be more involved please let me or another director know, as we have plenty of jobs to share around and want everyone to feel part of the team. There is no doubt the more you are involved the more you get out of Rotary!

Comments from Charles on ‘Loud Shirt Day’
The club Directors have decided that the club will again take part in Loud Shirt Day as we did last year.
Loud Shirt Day is an annual fundraiser dedicated to enabling children who are deaf, and have cochlear implants and hearing aids, to listen and speak through funding of free audiology and therapy services.
This year Loud Shirt Day is to be held on Friday the 27th of September, although a suitable date for the Club is yet to be arranged. Charles will have details.
Comments from Jim Carroll regarding the Community House project
Jim thanks those people who put their hand up to assist with the first working bee to get the above job underway.
After talking to some members last Tuesday night, it was proposed that volunteers meet at Alexandra Community House from 2.00pm - 5.00pm on Friday 30 August (today) - so that is what happened.
Those who made themselves available, met in the car park at the rear of the building.
John Whittaker was to bring a hedge trimmer, and Jim to bring the gear used on the trail tidy up, so not much else was required, although a couple more garden forks would probably be good Jim thought.
Jim was to let Alexandra Community House know we would be coming in and would put a list of jobs together to get everything underway (all done!).
Coffee at the Tin Goose, or a beer at Monteiths should cap the afternoon off nicely, Said Jim - we trust that went off well!.

Millennium Trail Clean Up continues until the 14th of September
Rarotonga Literacy Project
This is a joint project, currently in the early planning stages, between Wanaka, Cromwell and Alexandra Clubs in Central Otago, and Rarotanga Rotary. President Justine has been keen to join with other local clubs in such a venture
The desired outcome is twofold – to supply 2nd hand books to stock Lilliput Libraries – old double door commercial display fridges, and to provide appropriate educational books to Apii Nikao School. This club will commit $2,000.00 to this project; a District Grant Application will be applied for, with an overall budget spend of $11,000.00. The club will be looking for someone to drive our part of the project.
Next Bulletin
Will probably be published on Friday the 13th of September. Please send content to the Editor.
