The Big NZ Blood Pressure Check

Stroke strikes around 24 New Zealanders each day – young and old. Every year around 3000 people are left with a lifelong disability and a further 2500 people die after having a stroke.   But the good news is stroke is largely preventable. High blood pressure is a major cause of stroke. Around 1 in 5 New Zealanders have high blood pressure and many don’t even know it. This year, with your help, the  BIG NEW ZEALAND BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK  will again boost the number of New Zealanders who know their blood pressure. Results from previous years show this simple check will inspire thousands to improve their blood pressure, while also encouraging others to have a check. Of course high blood pressure is only one risk factor for stroke. The  BIG NEW ZEALAND BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK  will also get many people thinking about other risk factors. For those with high readings in particular, it may start a more in depth conversation with their doctor and the process of determining their overall cardiovascular risk. 2016 will mark the eighth  BIG NEW ZEALAND BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK.
When was the last time you had your blood pressure checked? This is a free opportunity to have a check, with thanks from St John and Alexandra New World this event is made possible.
